Stepping Stones
During a Reiki Session
What to expect
Reiki Pracitioners have been trained in the system of non-invasive hand positions and techniques to strengthen or restore the flow of life force energy. This gentle transmission of life force energy rejuvenates the body's ability to relax, support the client's body to heal itself and encourages general well-being. Reiki Sessions can be administered with the client sitting in a chair, lying down or even remotely. All Reiki Sessions are done fully clothed, so comfortable clothes are recommended for the appointment. During a Reiki Session, the Reiki Practitioner receives a flow of life force energy and transfers it to the client with either the practitioner's hands on (with the client's express permission) and/or between 2" to 4" above the client's body, without the client disrobing.
Meanwhile, the client may (or may not) experience sensations such as heat, coolness, vibrations, tingling, gentle pressure, flow of air, or an emotional release. Some clients simply fall asleep while the session takes place.
It is important for the client to review, complete and submit a Radiant Waves Client Intake Form when an appointment is booked and prior to a Reiki Session. The Reiki Practitioner can prepare for your session by better understanding your goals for well-being.
Basic Information for a Reiki Session
- Scheduling
Scheduling your Reiki Session in advance is important in order to help assist the client as best as possible and as soon as possible. Also, it helps the Reiki Practitioner review the Client Intake Form and healing goals for the session.
- Permission & Intake form
Reiki requires the client to provide express permission to receive the energy healing. Using the Intake Form, clients are informed of the Reiki Session and what to expect.
- Comfortable Clothes
For either remote or in-person Reiki sessions, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothes so you can relax. It is suggested to remove accessories (such as glasses, watches, jewelry, belts, or similar) for comfort and in order to facilitate the flow of energy.
- Communicate
There should be an open channel of communication between the client and the Reiki Practitioner. The client should always feel free to tell the Reiki Practitioner if he or she feels uncomfortable at any time.
- Hydrate!
Water is a great conduit of energy and it helps move the Reiki energy flow during the session. Hydration is recommended for the increased efficiency or effectiveness of the energy distribution.
- Clients +18 years of age
Clients must be over 18 years of age. Reiki Sessions can be provided to persons under the age of 18 years of age with the knowledge, express permission, and presence of a parent or legal guardian during the session.
Distance vs. In-Person Healing Sessions
Virtual
Distance Healing Session
To receive the treatment remotely, sessions take place when the client is relaxed, reclined or in meditation to receive the energy. Since time and distance are not an issue when receiving Reiki, sessions can be scheduled for clients located around the world. The Reiki Practitioner will simply email or text at the start and end of the session.
** Currently unavailable **
In-person Session
Sessions can take place with the client sitting in a chair or lying down, depending on the client's preference. The session will take place at a healing center located in the Tysons Corner area, near Washington D.C. It is recommended that the client have unstructured time post-session to incorporate the energy and then, ease back to a normal daily routine.
Overview
How it works
- How do I know if Reiki is working?
Reiki, as a transcendent life force energy, flows with spiritual wisdom to where it is needed. Reiki can be subtle or noticeable. Clients have felt the easing of physical pain, or calming of intense emotions or the soothing of stress. Clients may feel more focused or may have the deepest sleep they have enjoyed in a long while. The experience is unique for each client and, some times, each session.
- Why do remote Reiki Sessions work over long distances?
Reiki is transcendent life force energy and, therefore, available universally. A Reiki Practitioner is trained in the techniques of receiving and focusing the flow of healing energy to where it has been requested regardless of time and location. However, it is important to have the client's permission to provide the Reiki Services at the agreed upon time and place, and the client should be available to receive the transmission.
- What if I need to cancel or reschedule my Reiki Session?
We are a "by an appointment or reservation only" business, so we honor a 24 hour cancellation notice to avoid being charged for the appointment or group session:
- To avoid being charged for a session you cannot keep, please cancel with at least 24 hours notice.
- Any and all changes to the schedule must be made 24 hours prior to your session.
- If your cancellation is at least 24 hours in advance of the session, you will receive credit for rescheduling your appointment.
In short: if your cancellation is less than 24 hours in advance of the appointment, you will be charged the full amount of the session.
- How can I pay and what are your payment terms?
Payment is required at least one (1) business days before each Reiki Session. Payment via credit card is accepted over the phone or by using Zelle for Business or Paypal.me or using the online booking site. All major credit cards are accepted. Clients can pay for the session when scheduling the Reiki Session.

FAQs
- How many Reiki Sessions do I need?
There is no standard prescription for Reiki Sessions or Services. Clients seek out Reiki Services when they are called to bring in assistance to support their own well-being. For example, it may take 3 sessions or more to help manage grief or loss; or, it may take over 10 sessions to help assist with post-operative care depending on the healing progress. Receiving Reiki Sessions on a regular basis can provide benefits in maintaining a general sense of relaxation, so you can discuss with your Reiki Practitioner what would be the best frequency of Reiki Sessions or Services for you.
- As a Reiki Practitioner, don't you get tired from giving the Reiki Sessions?
No; on the contrary, a Reiki Session can be restorative for both the client and the Reiki Practitioner. A Reiki Master Practitioner is trained in the techniques of receiving and focusing the flow of healing energy to the client without adversely affecting her/himself. The Reiki Practitioner's state of being during the session is sometimes affectionately referred to as "being the hollow reed" allowing the energy to flow through.
- Does Reiki use aromatherapy or crystals or singing bowls?
Reiki is an energy healing modality only. However, Reiki Practitioners may also use aromatherapy, crystals or singing bowls or other healing modalities to assist or amplify the intention of the healing session. Please discuss your preference with your Reiki Practitioner.
- Does Reiki work on kids?
Yes; children are naturally more connected with the flow of loving healing energies and they can receive Reiki with the permission of and in the prescence of their parents/guardians for in-person sessions. Additionally, the Reiki Practitioner will ask for the child's permission to provide Reiki and will check for an indication before proceeding. With the parent's/guardian's and child's permission, I have worked with the baby en utero and, via remote distance healing sessions, with infants and toddlers.
- Does Reiki work on animals/pets?
Yes; all animals are all naturally receptive to loving energy such as Reiki. If animals/pets are overcoming health concerns or if they are adapting to a new environment, Reiki can help smooth over their transition and assist with their general well-being. We are happy to refer you to Reiki Practitioners that have experience working with animals/pets.
